I am getting desperate here, I began experiencing strange freeze ups in
XP pro a couple of months back. What happens is I am unable to click on
buttons, links or any other clickable items.
The mouse pointer is not frozen and moves freely but I do not get any
rollover states, tool tips, and am unable to click links on web pages
or my task bar. If I open the task manager and highlight one item it
"unfreezes" the mouse and I can proceed but eventually I need to reboot
because browsers become so buggy they completely freeze up whilst
playing Java based games (which I do a lot on www.pogo.com).
I have the same problem in netscape and firefox as well as IE so dont
think it's browser based but it does appear to be worse in IE
This problem got so bad I reformatted and it did not help, same thing
happened.
So then I thought it must be hardware and I put in a case fan in case
it was over heating (getting desperate) and to cut a long story short
was careless and blew out half the hardware in the computer.
I now have another motherboard/cpu/Hard drive/ power supply and bought
a new stick of ram too to test with. Nothing helps $500 later I am
still experiencing the same issues.
The only other part of the system not replaced (apart from the 2
monitors ((extended desktop)) mouse and keyboard) is the video card
....... but I took that out and replaced with an old one and still had
same problem. I also removed Mcaffee in case it was related to
installing that and installed Kaspersky Antivirus,,,, again no help.
I am at my wits end here and any help would be gratefully appreciated.
