1. Boot the machine with your Win2000 CD.
2. Select "Install" when prompted.
3. Allow the chosen partition to be formatted when prompted.

You will need to back up your data files on the selected partition
before performing the installation.

the problem is that i don't have a bootable 2k cd...i have a slipstreamed 2k
.... my data has already been put on an external drive ... i have plenty of
time, so i wouldn't even mind starting from dos and working my way up, its
just a matter of getting around xp's unwillingness to demote ... thank you
for replying so quickly ...

All Windows 2000 CDs are bootable. If something is wrong with yours, you
need to request a replacement from Microsoft.

If your slipstreamed CD is not bootable then you can do this:
- Boot the machine with a Win98 disk from www.bootdisk.com.
- Use fdisk.exe and format.exe to create a FAT32 partition for Win2000.
- Navigate to the i385 folder on your slipstreamed CD.
- Execute wintt.exe.

Your FAT32 partition will be limited to 32 GBytes. You can
later expand it with a partition manager such as PQMagic.

I'd suggest using one of the following approaches:

1) To utilize your current non-bootable slipstreamed CD, create the four setup
floppy disks as described here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/197063/EN-US/
After the final floppy has loaded it will ask for the Windows CD....you'll then
be at the same startup point you would have been if the CD was bootable.

2) Recreate the slipstreamed CD correctly using a procedure like this:
