XP thinks printer is USB device

I just got an HP Pavilion that came with XP home (SR2)installed.
I manually downloaded the XP driver for an HP 3820 Deskjet Printer. It
is connected to LPT1: and works fine.

If I turn the printer on I get a "New hardware found" message at the
bottom right of the screen. It then asks me for the file hpzip397.dll
and then gives me an error message that the printer will not work after
I cancel all that garbage. The printer continues to work properly
despite all of this.
It is acting like the printer is a USB device.
Does anybody have any idea what is wrong?
Thanks in advance,
-Alan
