XP Terminal Services

Hello,

XP has one license for accessing the box remotely through remote desktop
connection. Is there a way to install full terminal services or maybe
purchase more licenses, so more than one person can connect at the same
time?

Thanks

Windows XP only allows one connection at a time when using the
Remote Desktop. Why do you want to make more than one
Remote Desktop connection? You may wish to look into installing
Windows Server 2003.

I would like to be able to make more than one connection at a time so while
I am working on something my wife can log in and check her e-mails. I would
not want to go with 2003 server for that would mean losing directx support.

Thanks

This is not possible with Windows XP.
As Carey has already covered - if you require multiple Terminal Sessions
then you need to look at one of the Server products.

You can of course Fast User Switching so you switch back to the login screen
and you wife logs in checks her e-mail but your session is still running the
background, so when she logs out you can log back in to your still active
desktop and applications.
But all of this happens at the desktop and not over a Remote Desktop
Session.

That link definitely helps, I beta tested Win 2003 over a year ago and I was
not able to run most of the games! It seems like there are a ways around. Do
you know if Virtual PC works on Win 2003?

Thanks,

so it's not supported currently, well it's good to know that it will be
supported...

Thanks

Contrary to what you have heard you can have multiple connections to remote
desktop and also let someone else use the machine. There is a program, and I
lost the link sorry, that does just this. It lets up to 20 people remote
desktop into a xp pro machine at the same time(using the native xp remote
desktop). I tried searching google real quick and didn't find it, but I saw
it just like a month ago. A program does exist that does this, you just have
to find it. If I find it again, I'll post it.

Of course you can always use VNC instead of remote desktop and you'll be
able to work and have someone remote in at the same time.

Thanks,

Yes that is an option, though I find it a bit primitive compared to RDP.
Also I thought VNC is just for interacting with the active session...

Yes that is how vnc usually works, with the active user that logged on and
running the vnc software, so it's not quite what you need, but may help.

Well at this point the only alternative seems to be Win 2003. I will find an
eval copy or something to test 2003 to see if it does what I am doing with
XP.

Thanks
