XP Templates and WIndows 2000

Hi

I'm just in the process of upgrading our workstations to XP Pro and
want to use the new XP GPO templates. I've read the articles about
adding the new templates from an XP machine. However, I have one
question. If I delete the existing Windows 2000 templates and add the
XP templates to each GPO (as specified in various How-To articles)
will I lose the original settings in my GPOs?? i.e. will the new XP
templates "reset" my GPOs to default?

I'm sure this is an easy one for someone!!

Cheers

Brett-
No, you won't lose the original settings--the actual settings are stored in
a file called registry.pol within the SYSVOL portion of the GPO and aren't
affected by changing ADMs. The only thing that is possible is that, if there
is a policy option that was set using the old ADMs, and the new ADMs no
longer contain that option, then that setting could be, in effect, orphaned
(i.e. you won't be able to see it in the GPO editor to change it). That's
pretty rare, since most of the time, newer ADMs are a superset of the
previous version, but its something to be aware of.

Many thanks for the advice. We're now successfully using the XP adms!
You were right in one respect, I overwrote the specific SUS Windows
Upgate adm with our XP templates and lost a couple of options.
Reloading the sus adm solved this.

Again, many thanks for your help.
