XP Taskbar

All of a sudden, I have lost the ability to
hide inactive icons" on my taskbar. I have tried re-setting the properties,
etc. Even re-booted. Tried un-marking all the options--->applied then redid
it all but no help. Seems like a little thing, I know, but it is messing up
the taskbar because I keep a lot of quick launch icons there. Any help would
be appreciated
