XP Taskbar sizing problem

How can I reconfigure my taskbar?

My taskbar (across the bottom of the screen) is out of
control. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger! It has
now grown to 2 lines. I can't get rid of items in it
using the taskbar properties form.

I have a 15 inch monitor. I had to set the resolution at
the lowest level (600x800). When I first installed XP, it
was possible to control the number items in the task bar.
Since adjusting the resolution, this feature doesn't seem
to work, even if I reset the resolution to the original
setting.

Also, how can I put a desktop icon on the taskbar that
will close all windows?

Hi, Dan.

The bar at the bottom (typically) of your screen has several components.
Left to right they are the Start button, Quick Launch toolbar (optional -
you may not have this turned on), the Taskbar, and the Notification Area,
which many of us still call the System Tray (or SysTray). Which part are
you asking about?

As for the height of the Taskbar, you can make it one line, multiple lines,
or even no lines, by simply using your mouse to stretch it. Hover over the
top of the Taskbar until you see the double-headed arrow appear, then hold
down you left mouse button and drag the edge to the height you like. Just
like resizing any window in Windows. (You can also move the bar to the
left, right or top of your screen by dragging it, so if it suddenly jumps to
another side, just drag it back to the bottom.)

As for closing all windows, there are several alternatives. Have you used
the Windows logo key plus D or M? When you first enable the Quick Launch
toolbar, there is an icon to clear the Desktop. (Many users delete this
icon, then ask how to get it back.)
