XP takes forever to get to user icons screen

My daughter's pc; Celeron 1.8, XP pro SP2 all updates. Her computer boots
fine, gets to the Windows XP logo over black very quickly, then a flash of
the blue 'windows is starting up' screen, then to another image that she uses
as a desktop. It sits here for 10, sometimes 15 minutes, before displaying
the user icons. During this time, there is sporatic hard drive activity.
Anybody seen this sort of behaviour before? System is quite new and clean of
viruses, etc.
Thanks for any ideas.

Try creating a new User Profile. You will need to Log On as the
Administrator. If the new profile loads quicker you will need to
transfer files etc to the new profile before deleting the old one.

Hope this helps.
