XP system cannot PING itself, but can PING other systems

I am trying to setup a MS home network between three systems running XP. I
have two systems succesfully talking. The third system (new DELL XPS GEN 4)
has good internet access, can ping the other two systems, but CANNOT ping
itself or be PINGed by the other two systems. I ran MSCONFIG to shut down
all but MS necessary services with no luck. If my ethernet card was bad, I
would think that internet access and the ability to ping the other two
systems would not be successful.

Any ideas?

Thanks, RIT-89

The problem is probably caused by a misconfigured firewall on the
computer that can't be pinged.

Uninstall all firewall programs (Norton, McAfee, PC-cillin, ZoneAlarm,
Sygate, etc). Then go to Start | Run | Msconfig and disable all
firewall remnants in the Startup and Services tabs. Re-enable any
non-firewall entries.

Once everything is working, reinstall the firewall and configure it to
allow access on the local area network.
