XP Support

I understand there is a way to get paid support for Windows XP. Can someone
point me in that direction?

I have a problem that appears hopeless, and I need someone from Microsoft to
help correct it. I've exhausted all resources, so I'm at the point where I
need professional help.

Thanks.

I am not sure if you can "buy" new paid support for Microsoft.
Microsoft has discontinued "selling" XP versions, unless it is left-
over stock.

You might be a lot better on locating a repair centre locally. You
can either bring in your PC to them or have a technician go to your
place.

Click on the Windows XP icon and follow the steps to paid support. Someone
here might be able to help for free if you post again and give a detailed
explanation of what is wrong with your OS.

Have you told us about your problem here in this newsgroup? What is
the problem?

I am not necessarily against using a local technician, but anybody who
does so needs to be *extremely* careful who he uses. Many of them are
thoroughly incompetent. In particular, technicians from big-box stores
like Best Buy need to be completely avoided. The Geek Squad is worse
than useless.

Over Easy

Without knowing your issue. You could backup your data to an external
drive.

Wipe your system clean. Reinstall XP and Service packs for free.

Reinstall your programs.

Copy your data back.

Maybe the problem will fix itself and you will save money.

Maybe you can tell us the problem and avoid the above suggestions.

*if* the problem is not a hardware problem, doing the above will
almost certainly fix it.

However, if the problem was caused by something cynicalgirl did, which
is very likely, she will very likely repeat the behavior and find
herself back in the same situation.

That's why reinstalling Windows without finding out what is wrong is
usually a poor idea.
