XP suddenly VERY slow to open applications

As a consultant I came in to upgrade ta small company server from NT4 to Win2k. In the office there are Win 98, Win2K, and XP pro machines. Once the server was upgraded to 2000 server, the thre XP machines began to take well over a minute to authenticate. It takes 20-30 seconds to bring up a NEW window to acces the Internet. Word takes 30+ seconds to open.

This is a new Dell with plenty of power. Please advise...
