Hi

My computer keeps on starting up by itself at random times, maybe once every
few hours or sometimes slightly more often. The keyboard/mouse were not
touched. This does not to occur when I unplug the cable modem. Is there
anyway to stop the computer turning on without doing this?

I have all the latest patches installed, plus NAV and a firewall. I have
also checked for spyware and none was found. The "wake up on LAN" in BIOS is
disabled.

Regards

Jim

This has nothing to do with WinXP. The fact that is stops when you
unplug your cable modem points directly to the BIOS setting for
WakeOnLAN, which turns your computer on when the NIC receives signals
from your cable modem. It's not somebody trying to hack your computer
either.

Just get into BIOS and turn WakeOnLAN off.
