xp started running slow

hi can anybody help my windows xp has started to run slow
every time i turn pc on it takes forever to load up. when
i go onto anything it takes forever to load up every
think is running slow.

I had a similar problem recently just before upgrading from Win98 to
XP............. turns out my Norton AV got some settings changed, so
the Anti-virus was scanning EVERYTHING when being loaded, etc.
Simple fix was to change the settings so the AV only
checked new, or incoming stuff.......
You never know, it might be that simple.
