Hello,
I have XP SP3 installed on my laptop. I can connect to a wireless network,
but cannot connect to the Internet. This only happend after XP3 was
installed.

The weird thing is that i can get to websites by typing in its IP address,
but if I type in the name (www.google.com) i get an error saying PAGE CANNOT
BE DISPLAYED.

This is on a Dell Vostro 1510.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any troubleshooting tips?

NETSH

Click Start, Run, type:

netsh winsock reset

Press Enter key

Restart the system

You can also try this software download from a working machine:

LSP-Fix

Could you have malware on your machine? It sometimes blocks dns
entries, using your hosts file, or it can change the location and name
of the "hosts" file. If you think this could be the problem, try
running your a/v in Safe Mode, or run these:

Malwarebytes© Corporation

SuperAntispyware

A Google search for similar error messages:

..netted this thread, which has quite a few suggestions that worked for
different users:

good luck,

It is a brand new machine. the only thing I put on it is Office 07 and all of
the MS updates.

I tried the flush dns, but still no luck. Im going to contact Dell to see if
they can get me a SP2 disc.

First and foremost, check and see if your NIC driver is fully up to
date. There are some post-SP3 updates we could try after that.

By NIC I did mean the WiFi adapter driver.
