Art - GTS Technologies

Does anyone know if MS will be releasing XP Pro install CDs (specifically the
"generic" OEM type like you can buy from Tiger Direct & others) with SP3
integrated into the install? (Like SP2 is now.) I'd appreciate it if someone
from MS could give us a definitive answer. Thanks.

My guess is yes, but only time will tell.
Also, if Microsoft does, you will need to buy it.

You should be able to slipstream SP-3 into your current media as long
as the media is generic OEM or retail.

i seriously doubt it.

now that vista is out,
production of a new
version of winxp, e.g.,
winxp sp3, won't be
a goal for microsoft.

if winxp sp3 does come

be for "perspective"

Where have you been, under a turnip truck?
WinXP SP3 has been released as RC1 a few weeks ago, and the final RTM comes
out shortly.

Your business sense thinking is faulty.

there are lot of faulty
things in our economics.
its what keeps the rich,
rich and the poor, poorer.

its no problem if you
disagree. unfortunately
its not my "business sense"
that is faulty.

in my recollection microsoft
has never manufactured and
distributed two different operating
systems at the same time and
in direct sales competition
with each other; although some
stores may have them on
the shelves.

I'm an IT professional and MCSE. Despite at least half-a-dozen attempts, I
have _never_ gotten SP slipstreaming to work in 2000 or XP, even when
following step-by-step walk-throughs. That's why I'm asking my question. If
you know of a procedure that actually works, please share the URL.

http://www.nliteos.com. It's free and works every time.

The NLite program suggested by "mcp..." is frequently mentioned as an
effective program for slipstreaming. I've never used it myself but I've seen
many favorable reports re that program.

The program we use, and highly recommend for slipstreaming purposes because
of its simplicity & effectiveness is the AutoStreamer program - it's also a
"freebie".

It seems to be highly regarded by virtually everyone who has used that
program.
See the following links...

Step-by-step instructions for using AutoStreamer can be found at

Use nlite ever? It's for the slipstream challenged and a no-brainer.
Should get you where you need to go. SP3 will likely be a free
download and MS always does send SPs out to customers for free.
There's a web page you have to visit once it is available next year. I
received SP2 on CD for free so I can't see why SP3 wouldn't be the
same.

My guess is yes, but I'm not privy to Microsoft's plans and can't say
for sure.

I'd appreciate it if someone
from MS could give us a definitive answer.

This is a peer support newsgroup. We are all just Windows XP users
here, helping each other if and when we can. We are not Microsoft
employees (not even those of us with "Microsoft MVP" behind our names;
that's an honorary title for having provided consistently helpful
advice) except for an occasional employee who posts here unofficially
on his own time. It's possible that you might get a definitive answer
from someone at Microsoft here, but it's unlikely.

I've never has a problem doing the slipstreaming. Read here:

"has never manufactured and distributed two different operating"
Windows XP and Windows Vista are both available now.
6 years ago at the release of Windows XP, Windows 98/ME were available
at the same time as Windows XP.

Your is faulty since it has happened before.
You can also see it in many stores now.
It is not now and was not in past years simply leftover stock.
