After reading some of the messages, maybe I do not want to
install SP2, but the question I had is....

I have automatic updates turned on. A couple of weeks ago
at work they came around and installed SP2 and said it was
suppose to be released the following week. I go to
Windows Update and it is available for DL. But nothing
has come across through automatic update. I had assumed
turning on the auto update would get me the updates as
soon as they are released, but now I am not sure.

Anybody know why MS has not released SP2 to auto update?

Because the update file is 176Mbytes, MS are distributing it to a few
people at a time, rather to everybody at the same time.

Anybody who complains will be made to wait until everybody else has
been given a copy. To be fair MS has started with those with e-mail
addresses starting with ZZZZZZ

Does Windows Update (web site) offer it? Can you just go and get it?

Or does your email addy have to start with ZZZZZZ? :-)

I went and answered my own question. I have 2000, not XP so it didn't scan
and then offer it to me, but I used the Windows Update Catalog to locate it
and started a download just for fun - 266MB. (I may let it complete and
then burn it to a CDR incase anyone I know needs it). It seems to be
downloading at my typical DSL speed, about 160K/second.

By the way if you want to use the Windows Update Catalog, go to Personalize
Windows Update and select "Show Windows Update Catalog" and Save Settings.
Then it will appear as a link on the left hand side of your screen.
