XP SP2 wrecks Media Player?

Hi All,
Installed XP SP2 and all works - except Windows Media Player. The
player runs OK but insists that the necessary codecs are not installed
and will not play CD's. I've re-installed all codecs and the answer is
still the same.

I installed Nero player and that plays my CD's fine - but I would prefer
to get Media player going again - any ideas out there please?

Let us know if doing so helps at all.

To assure a clean install, your anti-virus application should be disabled
and all other running processes closed before installing anything, including
Windows Updates.
