XP SP2 slow

I'm another one who agrees that XP SP2 is a dog in at least one situation.

As a member of a domain, if I'm on my corporate network its fine. At home,
as a member of a workgroup, its fine.

But take my laptop out of the office (off the corporate network/domain) and
it is a DOG! Doesn't matter if I'm talking about home or another office, the
results are the same. It is not working.

Boot up takes several minutes. Launching applications takes several minutes.

Removing the network connection drasticly speeds things up. (Launch Outlook,
drop the network, Outlook comes up but can't find the network. Plug in
network, Outlook is happy. Click on a link in a message, or try to reply to a
message and go get a cup of coffee, or two, or three....)

RC1 did not have this behavior.
RC2 did not have this behavior.

I've defragged the hard drive.
I run virus scanner.
I run Spy scanner.

(Frankly you Microsoft guys are getting pretty insulting by continuously
going back to the same thing. There's a problem. A lot of people are
experiencing it. You're trying to blame them for it.)

I have installed and removed SP2 three times and always get the same behavior.

Obviously I have to support the company position that SP2 should not be
installed. Too many of our people travel and have been through the same
experience.

The installation of SP2 is not mandatory or required in any way. I have not
installed it and have not been asked to install it or told to install it.
In fact, it has not been offered for installation on my system by Windows
Update. There are reasons for the installation of SP2 and reasons not to
install it. On the Windows Update site is all the information you need to
make a rational decision regarding the installation of Service Pack 2. Read
the information and then make your choice. SP2 does have issues. Make sure
you know what they are as they pertain to your situation.
