XP SP2 Rollout

Nancy Kafer

I know that beginning April 12th Microsoft will automatically update Windows
XP machines with SP2. Can someone explain how this will work? Will this only
happen if you have automatic updates turned on? Basically, my reason for
asking is this...we are testing XP for a future rollout and I know there are
some applications (vulnerability scanners) that don't work with SP2. If I
build a machine with SP1 or (1a?) can I prevent SP2 from coming down to the
machine so I don't break my vulnerability scanner?

Thanks.

Yes. Even if SP2 is inadvertently downloaded it will not install
unless and until the user first agrees to the EULA for the Service
Pack. So there is an opportunity to cancel the install.

Good luck
