Win XP SP3 staged rollout?

I run two computers with Win XP Pro. One is a desktop that I built
myself, the other is an IBM/Lenovo laptop. Both computers also run
Windows Llive Onecare and are set to automatically receive updates. I
still have to pull the trigger to apply the updates.

My desktop downloaded the SP3 update more than a week ago, but the
laptop has give no indication that it has received the update yet.

I guess I can manually go the the Microsoft Update site and see if it
is available for the Laptop, but I was just wondering if there is a
staged rollout and if the Laptop might be on a later stage (perhaps
OEM versions update later than off-the-shelf) copies of XP?

What exactly is the version of XP installed?

Does your laptop meet these General Requirements:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsxp/cc164204.aspx

See also Prerequisites to Install Windows XP SP3
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717/

It is not offered if you have the IE8 Beta installed.

Hope this helps.

I suspect Automatic Updates on the desktop is configured for 'Notify Only'
or 'Download but Notify' but the laptop's configured for 'Automatic' (which
happens by default when you install OneCare). If so, the laptop should be
offered SP3 sometime in mid- to late-June, Mike.

I'm pretty sure (very sure, actually) that the two computers'
Automatic Updates settings are the same. Anyway, not a biggie. As it
is, I don't care much if the desktop craps out due to a SP3 error,
but I'd rather wait with SP3 on the laptop.

Well, how do I determine what "exactly" is the version of XP if "XP
Pro SP2" isn't good enough?

When I built the desktop I was enrolled in university and I got a
student discount on a version of XP Pro. The CD is dated Nov 2004 and
has an End Item no. E85-03210

The laptop says it is the 2002 version (it was OEM shipped pre-
installed before SP 1 (IIRC) and I manually installed SP1 and SP2 on
it.

More accurate than that I cannot be.

MS says that computers with AU set to Automatic won't be offered SP3 by AU
until next month, Mike. I don't make the news, I just report it. YMMV.
