Hi everybody, not sure if this is the right group but here's my
question. Im about to do a fresh install of a Windows Xp System and
I have the Service Pack 2 on cd. My question is the following: Do I
need to install SP1 before installing SP2, or can I just install
windows, then the updates from Microsoft and the SP2?
Thanks in advance,
Dan

Hi Dan

You can install XP from the original CD that you have, then upgrade to SP2.
There is no need to install SP1 first. SP2 is cumulative, so includes all
the upgrades in SP1. You will need to go to Windows Updates after
installing SP2 to then update SP2.

You didn't make it clear if your SP2 is on the XP disk or if it
is on a seperate cd. However, the best sequence is install
XP, then install SP2 from your cd, then connect to the internet
and do all the critical updates. Even SP2 has updates. So
far, all of the XP cd's I have gotten have SP2 as part of the
stardard install. Only the older ones don't have it. SP2 as
a separate download is around 270M.
