XP SP2 leads to loss of Internet

Hi,

I installed XP Pro SP2 and my internet has stopped working, details as
follows:
- I use a DSL 1 MB modem. It connects to internet perfectly.
- IE opens but does not open any site. Same for Firefox.
- Ping unsuccessful to DNS server. But succeeds for few sites as yahoo.com.
But when I try to open Yahoo through IE, the bottom bar first shows:
Downloading from site: res://C:\windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm
And a window appears with 'IE could not open the search page' message.

On other pages get the message: 'annot find server or DNS error'

Actions:
- I had ZoneAlarm firewall on and disabled the XP firewall. Now have
uninstalled Zone alarm, and tried to switch the XP firewall, on and off.
- Ran updated Ad-aware and Spybot
- Used WinSockfix for XP
- Reinstalled the Internet dialup software

Nothing helps. Please comment.

Thanks

I did run the ipconfig /all command to find the DNS and ping it - as I found
elsewhere in this forum. But ping failed.
How to check network configurations? I do not use any proxy/LAN etc. It is a
direct connection to internet.

Thanks for help.
