You are a moron of the highest order. You can't even
spell "I have know idea
[/sic/]" means you do because the word "know" means "to
have knowledge of".

So, you blamed MS for the problems instead of doing what
you should have
done and PREPARED YOUR SYSTEM(S) BEFORE INSTALLATION!!

I hope your boss reads this and fires you on the spot!

Fail to prepare - prepare to fail. You didn't follow the
Six Step Plan, you
just ploughed on in and installed, didn't you?!

1) Defrag the hard drive(s)
2) Run a systemwide virus scan
3) Run a systemwide spyware scan
4) Update all your drivers
5) Update your software
6) Turn off AVP before installation.

Not MS's problem if you have no common sense! Or just no
sense, full stop!

If you would read the details of the tool, you would have your answer.
The tool was designed for the group that asked for the tool.
Business users that have lots of computers.

Read about the tool so you can understand before you make more
comments that show otherwise.

Wayne;
"They really do need to test these things properly"
SP-2 was possibly tested more than any other piece of software has in
the past.
Exactly what do you mean by the above statement?
How many windows XP computers in the world?
Now factor in that no two are identical.
How does Microsoft or anyone for that matter test something as big as
a Service Pack on all possible combinations?
Can not be done, impossible.

"I am an IT manager"
Really?
Then SP-2 should have had no surprises to you since your organization
has been testing SP-2 for at least several months to check for
compatibility issues.

"I am now thinking of not even bothering as it is more bother than it
is worth."
Fine, it is your computer.
But you make it sound like you are punishing Microsoft.
How is that?

"...that they may have non micro$oft software aswell on their
machine."
Nothing wrong with non Microsoft software as long as it is well
written.
For years software has been written taking advantage of what are now
vulnerabilities.
Microsoft has taken a big step and followed the demands of the IT
community to make Windows more secure.

Did you at least have a clean computer?
Was the computer ready for Windows XP?
Since your rant gave no details, it is impossible to know.

Why is this spamming? Many MVPs, or other frequenting experts here seem to simply give a link to their respective sites for advice, without giving anything in any real detail here. Would that not be spamming also, using your logic?

By the way, what the hell is "I Maybe if " supposed to mean?

They do; as you would have known had you spent a nanosecond searching before

What to Know (and Do) Before You Download and Install Windows XP Service
Pack 2
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/sp2_whattoknow.mspx

It's also called 'common sense' but I wouldn't expect you to know anything
about that...
This **** keeps bashing everybody around but knows nothing or
contributes nothing.

Does Daddy know you're using his computer and using language like that? Now
toddle off back to your PlayStation or XBox, do...
There is no point in defending SP2 when MS has implicitly accepted
that SP2 may not be appropriate for everybody.

Er, no they haven't.

They have issued a
tool to stop it from installing itself via auto-update mechanism.

Yes, but not for the reasons you suggest/imply. The prevention is so that IT
managers (which Wayne here claims to be - but so obviously isn't) can make
sure their entire network/system base is thoroughly updated (and by that I
mean driver and software updates, as well as all the things MS recommend) it
has nothing to do with MS "admitting it isn't for everyone" - of course it's
"for everyone" every single computer in the world, running XP should install
SP2. Full stop. End of story.
Why would anyone spend time in developing tools just to counterits
own patch?

It isn't "countering" anything. It's giving IT managers and network admins
time before implementation.

Miss Tick, hve you had a patch of SP2 applied to your boobs? are you
good at Monica Lewinski job?

May I suggest you b*gger off and go drink a bottle of Harpic?!

You cannot spell. You cannot create a grammatically correct sentence. You
cannot follow the basic instructions for installing SP2. Your computer is
not properly maintained...and you say Microsoft produced an unfinished piece
of work? Then you try to pass yourself off as an IT person? Let's
review...
1. Can't spell.
2. Doesn't know the difference between "know" and "no" (i.e. I have know
idea).
3. Lies about being an IT manager (a real IT person would have backed up
*BEFORE* undertaking any service pack.
4. Cannot even muster up a decent rebuttal when slammed.

I agree with anonymous...You are in serious need of a life...

BTW, does it hurt walking around with that huge "L" stuck to your forehead?

SP2 wrecked my PC.
All of a sudden my DVD-RW drive won't work. Nothing is able to fix it. I
uninstalled SP2. Still can't read or burn a DVD. Store bought DVDs won't
play, either. Then I did System Restore and that didn't work, either.
I think MS released SP2 knowing that it was a bunch of junk.
Now I have to haul my PC to the shop and PAY to have it fixed.

MS = more shit.
