XP SP2 installation

Hi,
Since I don't have a better bandwidth to download and install directly
on my computer. I want to download at a remote site which has a better
bandwidth conenctivity and then install offline on my home computer.

I have got this download link,Can some one tell me will this be appropriate
for XP Home Edition. I already have SP1 along with couple of hot fixes
already installed.

Is this the SP2 download link?

I want to be sure this has all the security fixes and won't be different
from the install if I were to do via windows update.

Thanks
Vipin

Hi,

Yes, that is the download link for SP2 for WinXP (both Pro and Home).

Hi Vipin

You ought to go to Microsoft Update after downloading/installing that file.
Have you been to MU to see exactly what the download size for your own
system is? It will not be anywhere near 266MBs.

Yes, that is the link to download the SP2 file from.

I downloaded this package(266 MB). How do I find out the size at windows
update site? They don't seem to indicate the size over there. I hope the 266
MB download will cover everything that would be at the windows update site
also. Can I get the list of hot fixes that needs to applied on top of the
SP2 for greater security? My Home PC had been slow for a while.

I found a greate site by one of the MVPs and I am running through the
articles over there to figure out what is that is making my machine slow.

The size in WU is around 73mb.. that is the very basic SP2 install, and may
not truly represent what is required.. the 266mb file will selectively
update whatever in your system requires it, and is more reliable than WU..

There have been a few SP2 updates since its launch, which you will have to
get whether or not you have a list..

Hi,
Installed the SP2. I also installed a KB, but the KB is not listed in
add-remove programs. How can I list the KBs installed on the system?

Please tell me.

Thanks

Hi,

With SP2 for Windows XP, there is a new checkbox "Show updates" in
Add/Remove Programs. Did you enable this one?

Take a look in HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\UNINSTALL. All
installed SW including patches are listed there. Just don't change anything
in the registry without knowing what you are doing
