Xp SP2 Firewall of Sygate Personal Firewall

Paul

Hi,

I've installed SP2. Is it more secure to use the Firewall
provided by Sygate Personal, in it's normal mode, or is
the SP2 firewall preferable?

I've read earlier postings in this group which suggests
that having two firewalls running at the same time can be
counter productive.

Thanks for looking.

While the firewall in SP2 is sufficient in controlling inbound traffic, it
does nothing to prevent outbound activity. So, it is essential to have a
full featured firewall in place to handle both inbound/outbound traffic.
I've installed the free Sygate Personal Firewall on two XP Home SP2 systems
I've built for family members. There is no conflict between the SP2 firewall
and the Sygate firewall on these systems. While no 2 systems are exactly
alike, as long as one tends to their computer maintenance properly the SP2
update should cause no problems with existing program installations. I know
that many will disagree, but after having installed SP2 on 5 custom desktops
and a Dell laptop with no problems what-so-ever I would urge all to go ahead
with the SP2 update.
