XP SP2 Error - memory could not be "written" with explorer.exe

Service Pack 2 has been one giant diaster for me.

After I installed Service Pack 2, any time I right click on a file, windows
explorer would crash with the following error message with various memory
addresses. "Explorer.exe Application Error. The instruction at 0x01e9415b
referenced memory at "0x0000000". The memory could not be "written." Then
explorer loads up again ,and we do the dance all over again. I reinstalled
the original windows xp system files going through a bootable CD-rom and the
recovery process, and things worked fine, just like they did with service
pack 1a and every other update since then. So, I tried with SP2 install
again, and same stupid issues, but this time it decided not to recognize my
USB keyboard and mouse, and it still gave the same error message when trying
to right click any file or icon.

I am displeased. :-<

Rather an odd and we hope isolated case. I have SP2 and have found that in
fact it has improved my loading speed as well as overall system perfomance.
My OS is XP HE and is the original that came out almost three years ago now
but has tons of registry tweaks. So far the only complaint I have about SP2
is the fact that it is about a 20-25 minute download on a DSL with
installation taking 30-40 minutes. So that is rather a minor issue. I do
suggest and recommend that if you haven't kept your system up to date with
all the drivers and app updates from the manufacturers sites that you do so
before installing SP2. {:~)

Not as bad as your case, but I used to run a program called "Dr.Eye" (a
translation software similar to "Babylon").
Now have I installed SP2 on my laptop and when I start "Dr.Eye" I get the
same "Explorer.exe Application Error ...blabla... The memory could not be
written." or "..... The memory could not be read." messages and when I click
[OK] then Explorer loads and crashes again. :-((

Do you have Divx installed? Reference this:

I have been getting this type of error for longtime before installing SP2. I
suspect ATI video drivers or Norton Antivirus.
