XP SP2 Crashed PC

Last night my PC downloaded SP2 for XP automatically and
when the PC was rebooted, it never came back up. Tried
toboot in safe mode but just keeps rebooting after
flashing the Microsoft logo.

Any ideas on how to get my PC to boot up?

There are problems with automatic updates, so you should
have created a restorable system backup of some kind
before you allowed that to happen.

Have you tried pressing the F8 key at start-up and
choosing the "Last Known Good Configuration" option?

Is this possible with the OEM recovery CD or does it have
to be just the Windows XP CD?

Please advise. I bought computer from Gateway and have
OEM software.
