XP SP2: Cannot ping gateway via WLAN

P

Paul Rohorzka

Hi!

On a complete clean installation of windows xp pro sp2 on a new
harddisk I cannot get the WLAN-connection to work properly. I use a
fixed IP-address (since DHCP didn't work for that notebook even before
the reinstall).

I can ping localhost, but not the gateway or any other host. ipconfig
shows up all the correct settings. The taskbar icon says that the
connection is established, and the signal strength is excellent. Via
cable I can use the network without any troubles.

Do you have any idea or suggestions what I could do to circumvent that
issue?

Thx!
Paul

I would check the security settings first. Or this link may help,

Wireless issuesIf your wireless network doesn't have an AP, you will need to set your cards to use "AdHoc" mode. When setup Ad Hoc mode, make sure all wireless clients use ...

Something (probably a firewall) is blocking ICMP packets. This something is
most likely the reason that you never got dhcp working.

Being able to ping yourself is just a basic test for networkin (i. e. if you
can't even do that, your network si seriously misconfigured).
