XP SP2-Boot prob after install...

My dad downloaded the update, installed the update, and rebooted his pc.
Now, his pc cycles through the cmos setup and immediately reboots itself as
soon as XP tries to load. I have used a boot disk to come to a dos-prompt
but can't find root c:\ at all...? I'm kind of at a loss. Why can't I find
c:\? I do have a ghost of his system, but want to save that for last option.
Anyone have any ideas?
 
The sp2 Clashes with norton antivirus. My brother had that on his computer
and install the sp2 and his computer did the same thing. Did you have norton
