XP SP2 Automatic Updates grayed out

Running under XP SP2, the Automatic Updates options (from Control Panel) are
grayed out so that they cannot be changed. I'm logged on as a user who
belongs to Administrators. The PC is set up to be part of domain, but not
connected. Is this the problem, or any other ideas?

The GPO from the domain has set Policy against the updates.
