Looking for some help again with the file \system32
\simpdata.tlb. I understand it's an IE file. When I try to
install the the XP SP1 update from compact disc, after the
file verifications I get a message indicating that the
file simpdata.tlb is in use by another application...quit
the application and try again. I've used the Task Manager
->Processes tab to end all the processes I can without
shutting down the desktop and IE (because the autorun
setup page opens in IE with a link to the .exe file) and I
still get this darn message! Simply can't figure this out.
Any help is appreciated.

You have been making life difficult for yourself!

While you are on Desktop, put in the CD. It should autorun (unless you have
changed the default settings). Once the SP1 installer programme starts, you
may wish to --- it is recommended --- close any other running programme
using the holding-down-"Alt"-and-tapping-"Tab" (Lt. of "Q") technique to
bring all the other programmes in front ("in focus") sequentially and then
clicking the white-cross-in-red-square Close button (top Rt. corner)
individually, leaving the SP1 installer as the lone runner.

Now, if you still have this simpdata rogue bothering you, post back.
