XP: Sometimes connecting to remote volume requires login as guest

Two machines:
Notebook's name: "calliope"
Desktop's name: "sazha"

I long ago made a local volume on my notebook "Y:" access the remote volume
"C:" on my desktop.

So on my notebook (calliope), perhaps half the time now whenever I
either
1. click on a shortcut to Y: (the remote access to \\sazha\c)
or
2. Use "Add Network Place" to access "\\sazha\c" I get a request to access
it as Calliope/Guest. WHY????? And why only SOME times?

Note in this picture that the title of the window says "connecting to
calliope" but within the window it says "connecting to sazha", and then asks
for a password.

Most of the time if I reboot both machines, this silly dialog goes away.
Not this time.

ALSO: I cannot use remote desktop from the notebook to the desktop when this
happens. The connecting window just flashes the connection dialog and then
vanishes without further info.

AND: When this happens I cannot print to the remote printer on the desktop.

Ideas?

Very sorry everyone. I totally botched the location of this post. I'm
reposting under general via direct usenet. I became confused by posting via
the microsoft HTTP interface.
