I have a Lenovo notebook computer in an Active Directory domain to which I
cannot connect to administrative shares. I can ping by name and by IP
address. I can initiate a Remote Desktop Connection into it. I can also use
SMS 2003 Remote Tools to connect to it's desktop. However, I cannot use "net
view \\<machine name>", nor "net view \\<its IP address>". Both return
"System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found". The system
shows all the proper shares: IPC$, C$, Admin$. It can connect outbound to
network shares, Internet access is working, etc. The only issue seems to be
connecting inbound to its shares. The Windows firewall is off, the Symantec
Firewall has appropriate exclusions for our subnets. The "Server" and "File
and Print Sharing" services are running. A system rebuild would probably
resolve the issue, but any other ideas?

System error 53 could be firewall or computer browser issue. You may want to
use browstst to check the status. or this search result may help.
System error 53
System Error 53 - The network path was not found. Access Denied.
Situation: There are 5 windows 2003 servers in the LAN. The users can access
all servers ...

Check for Symantec anti-worm protection - it's like a firewall but doesn't
deactivate when you deactivate the firewall, nor when you deactivate the
anti-virus.

If no help there, look at logs from "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net
config server", and "net config workstation", from the problem computer and one
other, and diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and
follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):
