XP Slow to Start

My Sony Laptop seem to take longer and longer during the
startup process.

I'm referring to the time from when you see your desktop
to when it actually allow you to access the dropdown
menus from the startup button. (and plays the "startup
tune").

Any ideas?

Remove any mapped drives that you are not using, this can cause this
problem.

You can also use 'services.msc' to turn off programs that
start when you boot but that you don't use.
