XP shutdown while online (PRC problem?)

B

Barry

I continually receive the following message while online
and then it gives me 60sec to save everything before
rebooting.

Message:
Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a
problem and needs to close.

A system shutdown message then appears...

"This system is shutting down....This shutdown was
initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM.
Windows must now restart because the Remote Call Procedure
(RPC) services terminated unexpectedly"

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Are Product Support Services on holiday? Have not
received a response to my question/problem yet - I would
appreciate one, thank you.

This is not Product Support Services. This is a peer-to-peer newsgroup.
I suggest you read the FAQ on Microsoft's website.

That said, is there anything in Event Viewer that might give you a clue?
What does a scan with your current antivirus (using updated
definitions) show? What programs/services are running in the
background? You don't provide enough information in your post to get
anything but this very general help. Post back with more details such
as Event ID's (if any), system specs, what sorts of troubleshooting
you've already tried, etc. Of course, there's always the option to call
a local computer repair person and have them take a look.

Thanks Malke. My wife sent the second reply. She didn't
realize this wasn't a Microsoft service and was a bit
embarrased when I told her it was a peer-to-peer group.
My apologies.

XP doesn't give a lot of information or specific messages
which is part of the problem. I will do some more testing
and re-post later.

Cheers,
Barry

Does anyone know the solution to this? It only takes 1hr before my
laptop does this each time I start up. My XP copy is unpatched..
Further, I have not installed ANY new software, it has just magically
started to do it!

please help :(
