I have an intermittent problem on shutting down. I have newly installed
a HDD and reinstalled XP Home SP2 plus applications. There were a few
problems which involved using system restore and some uninstalling but
everything seems to be working OK now. However, sometimes I get a
dialogue box saying 'program not responding' and sometimes the shutdown
is so slow that it seems to have stalled and a reset is required, then
it shuts down OK. This seems to happen when the machine has been on for
a long time and used for different things but I can't identify a pattern
and I can't replicate the problem.

I obviously don't expect anyone to come up with a solution with this
meagre information but I would welcome suggestions as to where I could
look. At the moment it is just a minor nuisance but if it get worse I
will reformat and reinstall - having done it once I know the pitfalls (I
hope!!).

Thanks
