My computer is shutting down with a countdown time. The
error says 'Windows has encounter an error and must shut
down. A timer starts counting down in the pop-up. IT
says 'Windows NT Authority/system' An error in the Remote
Call procedure (RCP) has been encountered

Sounds like the W32.Blaster.Worm. Go to Symantec.com and
download the Blaster Fix tool (link on the home page).
Good luck. Don't forget to install the Microsoft patch
(info at Symantec site).

Sounds like the Worm going around. Go to task manager
and look at processes. If you see a program running
called msblast.exe, you got worms. End the process and
try to access Norton.com to get the small file to delete
the worm. Then access Microsoft's website for the patch
for XP. I done all that and now I have no problem with my
XP. If you can't end the process and get online, try
downloading the small Norton file to a computer that can
access the web, and save the file to a good floppy. (The
file is small enough to fit onto it.) Then go home and
run the program. It will find and remove the worm from
your registry and from the prefetch folder. You don't
even need Norton Antivirus installed to do this.
