Hi. Here is the deal. I just purchased a new Hard Drive
(Maxtor 80GB 133ATA 7200RPM) and installed Windows 98SE on
it. It was up and running, no problems. Well I also
purchased Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade to install on
this new hard drive. I put the CD in, I clicked on
install, I selected New Installation...and it began. Went
through the entire thing, rebooted on its own, and went
what appeared to me to be a DOS screen to finish setting
up. Asked a few questions: I wanted to convert my FAT32 to
NTFS so I chose that. It said it was converting, showed my
available memory and total memory (correct mind you) and
that this may take some time. It went through it, and then
it rebooted, but that was about it. During computer
startup it recognizes hard drive and cdrom drive and cdrw
drive, etc.., and then on screen displays "Verifying DMI
Pool Data" But then shows "Disk Read Error press Ctrl +
Alt + Del to restart" (thus stops). So I did just that
and restarted and received same error message. Now it
can't get past this, why is this? Please help. Thank you.
(And no there was no CD in the drive nor any diskette in
the drive.)
