XP setup skips OOBE

Hi,

When I to do a clean install of XP Home or Pro on an Epia ITX motherboard it
gets to the point after the final reboot where it asks to change your
display resolution. If I click either Yes or No to keep the settings, the pc
will lock-up. If I install again but let the 30second timer count down
instead of clicking Yes or No it will continue to boot but it skips out the
section where you type in your account name/register with microsoft etc etc
and goes straight to the desktop.
Then, if I run Activation (msoobe /a) it works ok until I close it which
freezes the pc every time.

Any ideas?

Some driver is corrupt, or incompatible with XP. I would boot to Safe Mode with the bootlog option, and read %windir%/NTBTLOG.TXT
for some hint to a driver loading problem.
 
I reset when it freezes during installation and booted using the logging
option,
Here's what didn't load in ntbtlog.txt:

Did not load driver \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\imapi.sys
Did not load driver \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\rdbss.sys
Did not load driver \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\mrxsmb.sys
Did not load driver \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\ipnat.sys
 
Things like the floppy drive, and the CD drive are parts of the BIOS. You may need a BIOS repair or upgrade.
 
The motherboard doesn't have a floppy connector. I've tried different cd
drives and installing from the HDD.
I've just tried SP1 which works fine, I might have to stick with this, it
won't be networked so the security risks aren't a problem.
