XP Setup boot disks will not load

In an effort to get Windows XP- Home Edition to load, I
downloaded the the XP-Home Edition Setup boot disks
file. I created the six disks and tried to load the
disks. The first five disks loaded fine, however the
sixth disk did not. After putting the sixth disk in and
pressing enter, a Please wait message appears and does
not go away - even after two hours. How do I load XP so
it opens?

I did some research and I think the problem is that some
of my startup files got wiped out. At the root of c:, I
do not have a boot.ini file, ntldr file, ntdetect.com
file or a command.com file. I tried to copy the ntldr
file and the ntdetect.com file from the XP CD (via a
separate floppy disk) to the root of c: and I get a
permission denied error. Heck, I am the administrator
for this xp-home edition home PC - I upgraded this
machine to xp from windows- millenium two years ago and
it worked fine until a month ago. Any ideas how to get XP
to open?

I ran Norton Disk Doctor from a floppy and the hard drive
is fine. It's Windows XP or files it needs to run that
are not fine. I've got data on the hard drive I need to
back up and need to have this PC up and running as soon
as possible.

The only drive that is functional is the A: drive. The
BIOS setup file is set to boot from: CD, floppy, hard
drive - in that order. However, I can not access the CD-
drive because of the missing files and the machine will
not boot from a CD for the same reason.

Any ideas how to get XP to open?

Did you try pressing enter again. I have noticed that the message reappers
sometimes if the drive is not ready when pressed. More detail about you
computer would help. I (we) can't see it from here. :)

You might simplify your effort (because it coild take several attemps) by
booting with a win me floppy that has all the CD drivers. Then cd D: to the
CD-Rom and run setup, press the F key for repair. When you see a choice to
get into Command Console go there first and it will ask for the ADMIN
acount's password.
Do a fixmbr and fixboot, do a chckdsk or even try to copy those loader files
from the flppy you have.

If that doesn't work (on reboot) then do it again and this time go into
repair. After the repair, if reboot doesn't work, repaet the first set.

And when you get ti running convert the disk to NTFS if it is FAT32.

There is a way, just do one plan then the next. :)
