XP Service Pak 2 Update

I have not been able to use the restart function since installing SP2. If I
need to restart computer, I have to shut down computer, then do a manual
start.

I have consulted both Microsoft help and HP (computer HP A530n). But
nothing has helped. Anyone have any ideas?

As a side note, prior to SP2 update, computer would retart automatically.
No problems.
