Service Pak 3 update

I am having trouble with Service Pak 3 loading. I am using Windows XP. I
have read some of the posts about disabling anti virus and having enough
space on the computer. I have done all of this and still no luck. It gets
about half way through and then gives an error that access is denied. IE8 is
installed and I have not uninstalled this yet. I don't know anything about
computers so felt a little uncomfortable about uninstalling. If I uninstall
do I have access to internet explorer or did IE 8 take the place of the old
one....
