XP SERVICE PACK 3 on CD?

I am correct. MS knows very well that you can slipstream SP3 with XP Gold
but advise not to do it. MS says that doing so results in a faulty OS.

The explanation provided by the SP3 team to the TechBeta testers was that
SP1, in addition to being a rollup of updates, wrote some changes to XP Gold
kernel files that were not contained in any update before or after. This is
not unusual for a service pack installer to do.

These changes to XP Gold were also made by the SP2 installer if the user was
applying SP2 directly to an XP Gold installation.

However, for some reason known only to MS, SP3 does not repeat those
changes. In spite of questioning by a number of testers as to why not, no
explanation was given that I saw. Whatever the reason, in order to obtain a
fully stable system, SP3 should not be slipstreamed with XP Gold.

The resolution is to slipstream XP Gold and SP1 or SP2 first and then
slipstream SP3 to that result.
