xp service pac1 and microphone in messenger

When I downloaded service pac1 my microphone stopped
working so I removed pac1 and it worked again.Reloaded it
when blasterworm appeared and now no microphone again.
Have checked all the default sound settings I can find and
all OK. Can anyone help? (simple steps please)
 
Hi Ann,
The fact that you have been infected with the Blasterworm and you
probably followed all the direction for preventing further infection
including activating a Firewall. A colleague of mine did exactly this
and lost his Messenger Voice facility until he removed the Windows XP
integral Firewall. He has now installed a different Firewall which
allows Messenger Voice to pass.
