XP Screensaver password

Hi,

Whenever my screensaver kicks in on resume I'm prompted for a password to
unlock the PC.

All fine you may say but the checbox that asks for a password on resume is
UN-checked i.e. it shouldn't be asking for a password. Ive tried the obvious
like checking the box and then un-checking again but the behavour persists.

How can I stop this irritating feature.

Hi Mike

Have you checked in the settings of the specific screensaver to see if
it has its own password protect feature?

You can check this registry Key:

START | RUN | Type 'regedit' & press ENTER

Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop

Key Name: ScreenSaverIsSecure
Key Type: DWORD
Value: 1 = requires password, 0 = doesn't require password

Also check this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Desktop

Key Name: ScreenSaverIsSecure
Key Type: DWORD
Value: 1 = requires password, 0 = doesn't require password

Change both (above) to zero

Close the registry editor

The OP doesn't need to go into the Registry for this. He's just missing
the additional place to uncheck the option, which is on the Power
Management tab. The OP should either open the Display applet or the
Power Options applet. In addition to the option on the screensavers tab
in Display, there is a second option under Power Management to require a
password when resuming from standby. Simply unchecking this box, hitting
Apply/OK, will take care of the problem without him having to mess about
in the Registry.

Thanks for the replies but alas none worked. To recap:-

the screensaver doesn't require a password.
Screensave setup password on resume is not checked.
The passoword on resume on the advanced tab of power management is not
checked.

Any further thoughts?

Try this one then:

Open Display Properties, Screen Saver tab, click the Power button,
Advanced tab, deselect "Prompt for password when computer resumes from
Standby.
