One possibility is you have the NOGUIBOOT switch added to the boot.ini file.

Available switch options for the Windows XP and the Windows Server 2003
Boot.ini files

Open msconfig by typing the following in the Run dialog box or Command
Prompt:

msconfig.exe

Select the Boot.ini tab and uncheck "/NOGUIBOOT"

You could also manually remove the /NOGUIBOOT switch from the boot.ini file.

Thanks for your reply. NOGUIBOOT Was not checked. I thought I had a bad
monitor I just replaced, ViewSonic 910 with ViewSonic VA912b, monitor went
bad, told it would be cheaper to buy a new one. For some strange reason the
last couple days before windows boots up at the black screen I get a
message, No Signal, This screen would flicker for a while until Windows
would boot up. I had a suspicion, I am using a DVI connection, I suspected
the connection at the monitor was not seated fully, re-connected, seems to
be working fine. Thanks again.

Thanks for the feedback.

One thing I would like to point out. Could you provide more information the
next time you post a problem. For example, purchased a new monitor, the
monitor screen flicker during the boot, and the monitor displayed a No
Signal message. This information would had been very helpful but I am glad
you solved your problem.
