XP says I've lost my connection to the 'net but I haven't!

XP Pro SP3 keeps telling me that Local Area Connection is unplugged...
yet it isn't, my router is working fine. It will flash on numerous
times whether I am accessing the 'net or not.

What the heck is causing this annoying message in my tooltray?

Thanks,

Tinsby

Do you have more than 1 ethernet port?

Maybe it's a vacant one? If so disable it.

Tinsby,
Have you tried going into 'Network Connections'? ('Control
Panel' > 'Network Connections') The offending connection should be shown as
'disconnected' while your internet connection is shown as 'connected'.
Just right-click on the disconnected connection and choose 'disable'
from the right-click menu. This should stop the error messages from
appearing again.
