I'm having a recent problem with my Toshiba Portege 2000
that I've had for 20 months/XP Pro.
The last week, whenever I select shut down or stanby from
the start menu, the system does what it is told...then
within about 3 seconds, restarts itself. No errors show
up, and nothing seems to be wrong, other than the fact
that it won't shut down completely. I get into a fight
with the system and the power switch to finally get it to
shut down, but then I get an alert from Windows that it
did not shut down correctly (which is true - I forced it
to shut down), but then things return back to the way it
was.
I have already turned off the setting to "automatically
restart/System Failure" in the System Properties, but that
hasn't helped. I've done recent virus and spybot scans,
so I dont' think there is anything rogue in here.
Any ideas?
