XP Resets Custom Settings

Mike Dolibois

Periodically Windows XP (both Media Center Edition and
Professional on separate, non-networked
machines)"refreshes" the desktop, but with the belch
accompanying this task custom icon selections for MY
COMPUTER and the RECYCLE BIN revert to the default
versions. Also my SCREEN SAVER selection resets
to "None."

What's happening?

Can I fix it?

Kelly,

That worked beautifully for my desktop.

My screen saver still keeps getting reset to "None." I
think this is happening on startup. Any thoughts?

Thanks for you great help.

Most welcome, Mike and glad to hear it. As for 'none' .... see if this
helps/applies:

Check your setting for the screensavers path.

Here are some examples:

Marine Aquarium 2.scr > rename it to > MarineAquarium2.scr

In the registry, screensaver will work correctly if it is listed as so:
c:\windows\system32\marine~1.scr

Screen Savers do not work correctly if listed as so:
""c:\windows\system32\marine aquarium 2.scr""
