xp requires re-activation after 18 months

version of XP loaded over 18 months ago is requiring activation...cant
get past it...no hardware upgrades of any kind undertaken....loading
antivirus over a week ago is the only recent change....then today the
machine is out of action
thanks in advance for any tips....

So, reactivate. Its pretty painless, even if you have to do it over the
phone.
